Northeast Women’s Republican Club February 14, 2012 Minutes
The monthly meeting of the NWRC was called to order at 11:45 a.m. by
President Jennifer Hall. Lunch was served and the guest speakers
were Marie Christie, Lonnie Bowling, Ted Hubbard, Lee (Peter)
Strautberg ,Mike Wilson, Sara Driere (Jean Schmidt), Sharon Kennedy,
Judge John Williams, Bob McEwen and Eric Gregory. The business
meeting began at 2:20. Recording Secretary: The minutes were submitted and stood approved as written. Corresponding Secretary: A thank you note was received from Dan Policastro, Mayor of Mariemont. Cheer and Condolences: no report.
Treasurer’s Report: Submitted by Shirley Smith with $3,504.48
cash available the report was approved as written.
National Legislation:It was reported that Senate Bill S.2038
(Prohibiting Members of Congress and employees of Congress from using
nonpublic information derived from their official positions for
personal benefit, and for other purposes. AKA Insider
Trading.) was passed and has been agreed to in the House pending
amended wording.Reporter Alice Shives is stepping down and a
replacement is sought. State Legislation:Gov.
Kasich has signed an anti-bullying bill that requires schools to
update policies to include harassment and intimidation sent
electronically, such as over the internet or mobile phones.
Called the Jessica Logan Act, the policies extend to school buses.
Ways and Means:An extensive update on the Fashion show was given by
Fran Cohen and Janet Conboy. The show is April 14th 2012, Hyde
Park Country Club beginning at 11a.m. The Theme is “Past, Present
and Proud.” There will be 12 baskets. Admission is $40. Old Business: Name tags are being replaced and will become the responsibility of each member.
New Business: The 2012 Budget was presented. Sandy
Schaller-Birkmeyer made a MOTION to pass the budget as stated.
Fran Cohen SECONDED. After discussion, Shirley Smith made a new
MOTION to amend the previous motion. The amendment changes the
National Meeting expenditure from $1,000.00 to $1,500.00 and the Ways
and Means expenditure from $400.00 to $500.00. Fran Cohen
SECONDED, the “amending” motion was PASSED. Adjournment was at 2:25 p.m. Susan Burns Recording Secretary
